The Lynton illumiFacial is a 'photofacial' treatment with a difference. The illumiFacial combines medical-grade IPL technology with Lynton's unique Tri-Fruit Acid peel and specialist skincare serums to dramatically improve skin tone and discolouration and smooth and tighten the skin, leaving it looking clearer, fresher and firmer. The illumiFacial is a perfect treatment for congestion, discolouration and visible signs of ageing.
This highly successful treatment will increase the overall appearance of the skin, as well as targeting specific areas of concern, including breakouts, pigmentation and redness. The illumiFacial is a four-stage treatment, which starts with a deep cleanse to remove any impurities. Some people feel a tingling sensation when the fruit acid peel is applied, which subsides quickly. The IPL stage of the treatment can sometime be mildly uncomfortable but is well tolerated, often described as feeling like a "quick pinprick" or "the flick of an elastic band".

The illumiFacial is a non-invasive treatment, and uses safe, medical-grade equipment to minimise side effects. Following treatment, you may experience some slight tingling and redness, which will subside quickly. Some slight swelling may occur for up to a few days. Pigmentation may darken before flaking away. Redness and thread veins may also darken before disappearing, and you may experience some temporary bruising. You may have some areas of dry skin, and in very rare cases a small blister can form which may cause some temporary lightening or darkening of the skin. However, most people experience no side effects, and any reactions usually disappear within a few hours, leaving the skin feeling and looking radiant.

As well as clearer skin, an ongoing improvement to the firmness and plumpness to the skin will be experienced in the months following the treatment as new collagen is stimulated deep within the skin. A single treatment will show improvement. However, a course of treatments is recommended for optimum results.

Lynton are a UK company who originate from the University of Manchester. Their medical-grade equipment is multi award-winning and they are the only IPL supplier to the NHS. Their IPL technology is fully customisable, ensuring fantastic treatment results.

Cool gel is applied to the treatment area and then short pulses of light are released through the IPL hand piece on to the skin. The light is turned to heat and absorbed by the melanin and haemoglobin on the surface of the skin. The hand piece is moved around the treatment area and the process is repeated. Protective eye goggles are worn during the treatment.

Most people describe the discomfort as mild and tolerable, like the flick of an elastic band or a very quick, hot pin prick. No anaesthesia is required, and the skin is cooled before and after treatment.

This treatment helps to even out pigmentation and vascular irregularities, such as thread veins, whilst also stimulating the production of collagen and elastin to reduce lines and wrinkles.

Treatments can be carried out every 2-3 weeks. A course of 6 treatments is recommended for best results. Top-up sessions are typically recommended once or twice a year thereafter.

Redness and warm skin are expected after treatment. Pigmentation will darken or form 'micro-crusts' before flaking off, leading to a more even skin tone. Thread veins may darken before the haemoglobin is then absorbed into the skin. New collagen will be produced over the following months, leading to a subtly improved quality and density of the skin.

A consultation will be conducted to discuss the treatment and determine a client's suitability. This is a good opportunity for you to discuss your treatment goals and to ask any questions you may have.
A small test patch will also be carried out to assess the best treatment settings for you and to see how your skin may react to a full treatment. A full treatment can be booked for a week after the test patch.
Allow 14-days after Botox, fillers and other aesthetic procedures, e.g. peels and micro-needling.
Topical retinoids/retinol should be stopped 2 weeks prior to treatment.
It is important that the treatment area is free from a suntan, including fake tan, as the IPL cannot differentiate between the melanin in skin and in pigmented lesions or hair, so a suntan will greatly increase the risk of burns, scarring and hypopigmentation following treatment.

Make-up can be applied after several hours if the skin is not sore.
Avoid strenuous exercise, hot baths and showers, sauna, steam, massage and anything that could heat or irritate the skin.
Use an SPF30 and protect the skin from direct sunlight during the treatment course and for at least a month after treatment ends to protect against hyperpigmentation.
